Can I get a grant? EV charger and heat pump checker
Answer two or three questions to see which government grant you may be able to get for a home EV chargepoint or a heat pump. Every answer is based on GOV.UK rules, with sources.
Last checked: 15 October 2026. This is a guide, not a decision: the scheme, Ofgem or your installer confirms eligibility. Schemes change, so check GOV.UK before you commit.
All grant paths at a glance
Which home EV chargepoint grant applies depends on who you are and where you park. Heat pump grants come from the Boiler Upgrade Scheme in England and Wales.
Likely yes: the EV chargepoint grant for renters and flat owners
If you own and live in a flat, or rent and live in any home, and have private off-street parking, you can get up to £500 towards a home chargepoint. Your OZEV-authorised installer claims it, and funding runs until 31 March 2027.
- The parking space must be off-street, private, clearly defined and available to you at all times. It does not have to be part of the property.
- You need proof of all legal rights and permissions, for example from your landlord or the freeholder, plus evidence such as a rental agreement.
- Not eligible: owners living in a house (unless it has been converted into flats), lodgers living with their landlord, people about to move, anyone who has already claimed this grant or its predecessors (EVHS or the Domestic Recharge Scheme), and new builds where a chargepoint is required by law.
- Since 1 April 2026, installer claims must include photo evidence of the chargepoint and parking space.

Possibly: the EV chargepoint grant for households with on-street parking
If you own or rent and live in your home, only have on-street parking, and install a permanent cross-pavement solution such as a charging gully, you can get 75% of the cost of buying and installing a socket, up to £500. Funding runs until 31 March 2027.
- You need permission from your local highways authority for the cross-pavement solution, and planning permission if your council requires it.
- Temporary fixes such as cable covers or mats laid over a cable do not qualify.
- Planning rules for chargers in England change on 21 October 2026: see our planning permission guide.

Likely yes: the EV chargepoint grant for landlords
Private landlords, property management companies working for a landlord, social housing providers and public sector organisations can claim up to £500 per socket, for up to 200 sockets across all their sites, until 31 March 2027.
- Use an OZEV-authorised installer, who handles the claim. Since 1 April 2026 claims must include photo evidence of the installed chargepoint and parking space.
- Your tenants may instead be able to use the renters and flat owners grant themselves, with your permission.

Probably not: there is no general grant for homeowners in a house with a driveway
The government home chargepoint grants are for renters, flat owners, landlords and homes with only on-street parking. Owners living in a house are excluded from the renters and flat owners grant unless the house has been converted into flats and they live in one.
- You can still get two or three written quotes and compare them: our cost guide explains what drives the price.
- Home chargers sold in Great Britain must meet the smart charge point rules, including default off-peak charging hours you can change.
- Separately, some new zero emission vehicles carry a government grant that the seller takes off the price. That is for the car, not the charger.

Likely yes: the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (England and Wales)
If you own the property and are replacing fossil fuel heating, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme takes £7,500 off an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, £2,500 off an air-to-air heat pump, or £9,000 off an air-to-water or ground source heat pump in an off-gas-grid home replacing oil or LPG (values effective 21 July 2026).
- Your installer must be MCS-certified. They apply to Ofgem for you and take the grant off your quote and invoice.
- The heat pump must be commissioned and installed within 120 days of the application.
- The scheme has been extended to 2030. In October 2026 press reports said ministers were considering cuts to its funding; nothing had been confirmed when we checked.
- Our directory currently lists EV chargepoint installers only, so use GOV.UK to find a heat pump installer.

Not directly: the property owner applies
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is for property owners, including landlords with homes they rent out. If you rent, ask your landlord: they can get the grant for a heat pump in the home you live in.

Probably not under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
Social housing, most new builds still being built by a developer, and properties that have already had government funding for a heat pump or biomass boiler are not eligible.
- A finished new build that already has a fossil fuel boiler may still qualify.
- Self builds can be eligible if you or the original owner built them and they have never been owned by a business or organisation.

Not this scheme: the Boiler Upgrade Scheme is for England and Wales only
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme covers properties in England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland run their own support, which this checker does not cover, so check your own government’s official advice.
