Can I get a home EV charger with no driveway?

Yes, in many cases. Since 2026 there is a government grant aimed at homes that only have on-street parking, as long as a permanent cross-pavement solution is installed.

Last checked: 14 October 2026. Schemes change, so confirm on GOV.UK before you commit.

Is there a grant if I only have on-street parking?

Yes. The Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant for Households with On-Street Parking pays 75% of the cost to buy and install a socket, up to £500. You must own or rent and live in the property and install a permanent cross-pavement solution such as a cable channel.

Can I just run a cable across the pavement?

Not for the grant. Temporary solutions such as cable covers or mats laid on top of a cable do not qualify. You need permission from your local highways authority for a cross-pavement solution.

Is there other help for homes without driveways?

The government says a separate £25 million scheme, accessed through local authorities, supports embedded pavement channels, on top of the chargepoint grant. Ask your county or city council whether it is taking part.

How long is the grant available?

Funding is confirmed until 31 March 2027. The government can change or end the scheme.
