What makes an installation cost more?

Common factors are the distance from your fuse board to the parking space, whether cables must go through walls or underground, whether your electricity supply needs upgrading, and the charger model you choose. Ask each installer to itemise these in the quote.

Can I get a grant if I own a house with a driveway?

Generally not through the renters and flat owners grant: homeowners living in a house are excluded unless it has been converted into flats and they live in one of them.
